Conditional Sentences को हिंदी में शर्त वाचक वाक्य कहते हैं। इन वाक्यों में कोई शर्त पाई जाती है। इन वाक्यों में कोई probable, Improbable तथा impossible condition का जिक्र पाया जाता है।

Definition of Conditional Sentences in Hindi: Conditional Sentences ऐसे वाक्यों को कहते हैं जिनमें कोई शर्त पायी जाती है। बहुधा ये वाक्य हिन्दी में यदि या अगर से आरम्भ होते हैं और वाक्य के बीच में तो या तब शब्द आता है। जैसे;

(1) यदि तुम यहां आओगे तो मैं तुम्हें पढ़ाऊंगा।
If you come here, I shall teach you.

(2) जब तक वह है यहां नहीं आएगा मैं उसे पैसे नहीं दूंगा।
Unless he comes here, I can’t give him money.

(3) मेरे पास धन होता तो मैं एक कार खरीद लेता।
If I had the money, I would buy a car.

(4) अगर मैं वहां होता तो प्रधानमंत्री से बात करता।
If I were there, I would talk to the prime minister.
Were I there, I would talk to the prime minister.

(5) यदि सोहन मेहनत करता तो पास हो जाता।
If Ram had worked hard, he would have passed.
Had Ram worked Hard, he would have passed.

Note: ऊपर दिए गए वाक्यों में वाक्य संख्या 4 तथा 5 में, प्रारंभ में Were तथा Had से शुरू हुए हैं। इनका प्रयोग conditional में if के अर्थ में किया जाता है।

Types of Conditional Sentences (शर्त वाचक वाक्यों के प्रकार)

Structure के आधार पर Conditional Sentences चार प्रकार के होते हैं।

Zero Conditional Sentences
First Conditional Sentences (Probable Condition)
Second Conditional Sentences (Improbable Condition)
Third Conditional Sentences (Impossible Condition)

Zero Conditional Sentences

Zero Conditional वाक्य यदि (If) से आरंभ होते हैं। यह वाक्य absolute facts या general truths को व्यक्त करते हैं। ऐसे वाक्यों में कोई शर्त लागू नहीं होती है। जैसे: अगर मैं रात में कॉफी पीता हूं, तो मुझे अच्छी नींद नहीं आती है।

ऐसे वाक्यों को हिंदी से अंग्रेजी में ट्रांसलेट करने के लिए नीचे दिए गए स्ट्रक्चर को फॉलो करते हैं।

Structure: If/When + simple present (conditional clause), simple present (main clause)

Examples:

1. जब हम पानी को ठंडा करते हैं तो है पर बर्फ में बदल जाता है।
(When we cool water, it turns into ice)

2. यदि हम गर्म कपड़े पहनते हैं तो हमें सर्दी नहीं लगती है।
(If we wear warm clothes we do not feel cold.)

3. यदि आप प्रतिदिन विद्यालय जाते हो तो परीक्षा अच्छे अंक प्राप्त करते हैं।
(If you go to school every day then you get good marks in the exam.)

First Conditional Sentences

First Conditional वाक्य ‘यदि’ (If) से आरम्भ होते हैं और उसकी दोनों Clauses , Future tense में होती हैं अर्थात् दोनों clauses के अन्त में क्रिया में गा, गी, गे लगा होता है। इन वाक्यों में शर्त पूरी होने की सम्भावना होती है। ऐसे वाक्यों में if वाला उपवाक्य Present Indefinite tense में तथा मुख्य वाक्य Future Indefinite tense में बनाते हैं तथा तो या तब के स्थान पर comma ( , ) लगाते हैं।

Examples:

1. यदि तुम आराम करोगे तो स्वस्थ हो जाओगे।
If you take rest , you will be healthy .

2. यदि तुम बच्चे को पीटूंगा तो वह रोयेगा।
If you beat the child , he will weep .

3. यदि वह पढ़ना नहीं चाहता तो सो सकता है ।
If he does not want to study , he may sleep .

4. यदि तुम पास होना चाहते हो तो कठिन परिश्रम करो।
If you want to pass , work hard.

5. अगर तुम बाजार जाना चाहते हो तो जा सकते हो।
If you want to go to market, you may go.

6. अगर वह मेहनत नहीं करेगा तो पैसे नहीं कमा सकता है।
Unless he works hard, he cannot earn money.
Or
I he doesn’t work hard, he cannot earn money.

7. यदि वह 5:00 बजे घर आएगा तो पिताजी उसे मिलेंगे।
If he comes home at 5:00, father will meet him.

8. यदि मास्टर जी हमें पढ़ाएंगे तो हम विद्यालय जाएंगे।
If the teacher teaches us, we will go to school.

9. यदि आप आज यहां रुकना चाहते हो तो रुक सकते हो।
If you want to stay here today, you may stay.

10. यदि तुम इस कंपनी में नौकरी के लिए आवेदन करोगे तो तुम्हें नौकरी मिलेगी।
If you apply for job in this company, you will get a job.

Note: Probable Condition वाले वाक्यों में कभी – कभी दोनों वाक्य या तो Present tense में दिये होते हैं (जैसे उदाहरण 3) या मुख्य वाक्य Imperative sentence होता है। (जैसे उदाहरण 4) । ऐसी स्थिति में उपवाक्य जिस tense में दिया हो उसी में बनाते हैं।

Second Conditional Conditional Sentences

ऐसे वाक्य यदि से आरम्भ होते हैं और उसमें फर्जी शर्त पायी जाती है, अर्थात् सम्भावना यह होती है कि शर्त पूरी नहीं होगी। शर्त पूरी होने की केवल कल्पना की जाती है। वास्तव में इन वाक्यों में यदि वाले उपवाक्य से Present tense का और मुख्य उपवाक्य से Future tense का बोध होता है। नियम : ऐसे वाक्यों की अंग्रेजी बनाते समय if वाला उपवाक्य Past tense में तथा दूसरा मुख्य वाक्य would, should, could या might के साथ क्रिया की I form से बनाते हैं। जैसे –

(1) यदि मैं आगरा जाऊँ तो ताजमहल देखूँ।
If I went to Delhi, I should see the Red Fort .

(2) यदि उसने आवश्यकता समझी तो वह आपसे मिलेगा ।
If he needed, he would meet you.

(3) यदि वह अमीर होता तो तुम्हारी मदद करता।
If he were rich, he would help you.

(4) यदि हमारे मेरे धन होता तो मैं एक नया घर खरीदता।
If I had money I would buy a new house

(5) यदि वह आगरा गया, तो ताजमहल देखेगा।
If he went to Agra, he would see the Taj Mahal.

(6) यदि मिस्टर वर्मा के पास कार होती तो वे आगरा जाते।

If Mr Verma had a car, he would go to Agra.

(7) यदि मैं राजा होता तो एक सुंदर महल बनाता।
If I were the king, I would build a beautiful palace.

(8) अगर मैं डॉक्टर होता तो उसका इलाज सही तरीके से करता।
If I were a doctor, I would treat him properly.

Third Conditional Sentences

ऐसे वाक्य भी यदि से आरम्भ होते हैं किन्तु इनमें भूतकाल की ऐसी शर्त दी जाती है जो पूर्ण न हुई हो । बहुधा ऐसे वाक्य में दोनों उपवाक्यों के अन्त में क्रिया में ता , ती , ते लगा होता है । ऐसे वाक्यों की अंग्रेजी बनाते समय if वाला उपवाक्य Past Perfect tense में अर्थात् had + III form से और दूसरा मुख्य वाक्य would have या should have के साथ III form बनाते हैं । जैसे—

(1) यदि आप मेरे पास आते तो मैं आपको एक अच्छी खबर देता । If you had come to me , I should have given you a good news .

(2) यदि वह कठिन परिश्रम करता तो प्रथम श्रेणी प्राप्त करता । If he had worked hard , he would have got first class .

(3) यदि वह चुनाव में खड़ा होता तो हार जाता। Had he stood in the election, he would have lost.

(4) यदि मैं बैंक गया होता तो मैं तुम्हें पैसे देता। If I had gone to the bank, I would have given you money.

(5) यदि तुम कठिन परिश्रम कर लेते तो तुम प्रथम स्थान प्राप्त कर सकते थे। If you had worked hard, you could have got first place.

(6) यदि तुम स्कूल जाते तो मास्टर साहब तुम्हें पढ़ाते। If you have gone to school, the teacher would have taught you.

(7) यदि तुम इस नौकरी के लिए आवेदन करते तो तुम्हें नौकरी मिल सकती थी। If you had applied for this job, you could have got the job.

Note: कभी – कभी मुख्य उपवाक्य को Passive Voice में भी बनाना पड़ सकता है । ऐसी स्थिति में have के साथ been और क्रिया की III form का प्रयोग करते हैं । जैसे:

(1) यदि वह विद्यालय गया होता तो उसका सम्मान किया जाता। If he had gone to school, he would have been respected.

(2) यदि तुम प्रधानाध्यापक के पास गए होते तो तुम्हारी उपस्थिति लगा दी जाती।

If you had gone to the principal, he would have been marked present.

As if का प्रयोग

यदि किसी वाक्य के बीच में मानो या जैसा कि शब्द आ रहे हों तब उनकी अंग्रेजी as if से बनाते हैं तथा यदि Principal Clause , Present tense में हो तब दूसरी Clause में एकवचन तथा बहुवचन सभी कर्त्ताओं के साथ were का प्रयोग और यदि Principal Clause , Past tense में हो तब दूसरी Clause में had been का प्रयोग करते हैं ।

जैसे —

1. तुम्हारा भाई ऐसा लगता है मानो एक राजकुमार हो। Your brother seems as if he were a prince.

2. तुम्हारा भाई ऐसा लगता था मानो एक राजकुमार हो। Your brother seemed as if he had been a prince.

Conditional Sentences Examples in Hindi

यदि तुम समय नष्ट करोगे तो पछताओगे। (If you waste time you will repent.)
यदि बाग में बंदर आ जाता तो सारे फलों को नष्ट कर देता। (If a monkey had entered the garden, it would have destroyed all the fruits.)
यदि समय पर बरसात हो गई होती तो फसलें न सूखती। (If it had rained on time, the crops would not have dried up.)
यदि कुत्ते भोंकते तो चोर मोहल्ले में नहीं आते। (If the dogs barked, the thieves would not enter the locality.)
यदि तुम अध्यापक की बात को ध्यान से सुनो तो प्रत्येक प्रश्न हल कर सकते हो। (If you listen carefully to the teacher, you can solve each and every question.)
यदि तुम रंगे हाथों पकड़े जाओ तो क्या हो? (What if you are caught red handed?)
यदि तुम सच बोलोगे तो सब तुम्हारा सामान करेंगे। (If you tell the truth, everyone will do your stuff.)
यदि तुम कुत्ते को छेड़ोगे तो है तुम्हें काट लेगा। (If you tease a dog, he will bite you.)
यदि मेरे पास धन होता तो मैं आपकी मदद अवश्य करता। (If I had money, I would definitely help you.)
यदि नेता जी ने लोगों से अच्छी तरह बात की होती तो चुनाव जरूर जीत जाते। (If Netaji had spoken well to the people, he would have definitely won the) election.

Explanation is quite good for Hindi medium students to learn English grammar .
Howeve ,there is a need of improvement of “Hindi -sentences “in proper manner
